About Fredericksburg

Founded in 1728 along the Rappahannock River, Fredericksburg is one of Virginia's most historic and charming communities. Named for Frederick, Prince of Wales, the city played an important role in both the Colonial and Revolutionary eras and has strong ties with several Founders. George Washington spent much of his youth at nearby Ferry Farm, his mother, Mary Washington, lived in the city, and former President James Monroe began his law career here.

Fredericksburg is also renowned for its Civil War heritage, including the Battle of Fredericksburg and the nearby battlefields of Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House.

Today, the city beautifully blends its historic character with modern amenities, offering a vibrant downtown, unique local businesses, scenic parks, and convenient access to Washington, D.C., and Richmond. Its rich history, welcoming atmosphere, and strong sense of community make Fredericksburg a wonderful place to live, work, and visit.
